In Colorado, DUI and impaired offenses are misdemeanors; injury-related DUI offenses are class 4 felonies. According to Alcoholalert.Com, between 2000 and 2008 there were 5,703 total traffic fatalities in the state of Colorado with 2,267 of those fatalities being alcohol related.
The simple act of drinking and driving is considered by many to be one of the most dangerous combinations an average individual can make. Alcohol impairs a person’s judgment, slows their reaction time, and generally detriments any person’s ability to drive. Drinking and driving is responsible for many accidents in Colorado each year and drunk driving is listed as one of the leading causes of automobile fatalities for the state. Driving after drinking is not only a bad decision; it can also be a deadly one.
