The life of a toddler was changed forever by a car accident, according to 9 News. When a woman driving with her 3-year-old son in the back seat drove into the back of an RTD bus while she was distracted from the road, the child suffered a spinal cord injury that has resulted in his paralysis from the neck down. Investigators have indicated that the child safety seat was correctly installed, which is actually relatively uncommon (studies show that more than half of Colorado child safety seats are incorrectly installed or incorrectly used). Additionally, the mother says that she buckled her son into the seat, but that he has known how to unbuckle the chest restraint for over a year. In fact, this is both common among three-year-olds, and developmentally appropriate. The woman does not remember what distracted her attention, but thinks it may be that in fact she was looking at her son in the mirror, trying to get him to sit back in his seat. Unfortunately, this child suffered injuries that will probably require lifelong medical attention.
Has your child suffered a serious spinal cord injury in a car crash? Contact an experienced Denver spinal injury lawyer immediately.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that between 12,000 and 20,000 people suffer spinal cord injuries every year. Many of these people will recover completely, but many will be permanently injured, or will not survive the injury. The vast majority of spinal cord injuries are the result of motor vehicle accidents, falls, and acts of violence. In many cases, the ultimate outcome of a spinal cord injury, whether the victim survives, and is able to lead a “normal” life, comes down how quickly they are able to receive emergency medical services.
If your child has suffered a spinal injury in an auto collision, contact an experienced, compassionate Denver spinal injury lawyer as soon as possible. The health and safety of your child will obviously be your primary concern. Unfortunately, getting the best possible health care sometimes becomes difficult when left in the hands of insurance companies, who may not want to pay for expensive, though medically appropriate, treatment options. Denver spinal injury lawyer John Fuller has helped numerous people in the Denver Metro area who have suffered from spinal cord injury in accidents. Keeping Your 4th of July Celebration a Safe One
Independence Day is one of our nation’s most celebrated holidays and a popular time for family get-togethers or a night out with friends. But as the holiday quickly approaches, it is important to keep the safety of your family and friends in mind.
In one way or another, nearly everyone celebrates the 4th of July with fireworks. We either light some off ourselves, or head over and watch one of the many local municipal fireworks shows. But as a reminder, not all cities, counties, and states allow the possession of the same kinds of fire works. If you are not sure what bans, if any, for fireworks are enforced in your neighborhood, check with your local police department website. The Denver police department has issued this flier on what is and is not acceptable this 4th of July: http://www.denvergov.org/Portals/720/documents/News/FireworksFlyer2012.pdf
Fireworks and Injuries
According to a study conducted by the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPAC) in 2011, approximately 9,600 people were treated at emergency rooms for fireworks injuries. More than half of those injuries were burns, and nearly half of the injuries were injuries to the hands and fingers. The majority of injuries to other body parts were to the eyes, head, or face. The eyes were the only part of the body where lacerations, contusions and foreign bodies were more common injuries than burns. Most people treated at the emergency room were released without being admitted to the hospital.
Injuries to Children
Of course, there are things you can do to ensure the safety of your family. An analysis of the ages of fireworks injury victims shows that about 16% of all fireworks injuries are to children under the age of ten. The fact that sparklers cause more injuries than any other type of firework probably goes hand in hand with this statistic. Something to remember is that, even if you don’t give your children fireworks, children are curious, so you need to watch them around fireworks, and also watch the fireworks and matches or lighters to be sure that your children aren’t getting into them out of curiosity.
The CPSC related one other very disturbing trend for the 4th of July holiday. They report a spike in child pool drownings during the week surrounding the 4th with over 20 drownings, but also several thousand emergency room visits after near-drownings. As important as it is to monitor your children around fireworks, please don’t forget, if you have a pool, to be sure that a responsible, sober adult is monitoring the pool at all times. The fact is, it only takes a moment for a small child to have a terrible, tragic accident.
If You are Injured by the Reckless Use of Fireworks by Another Person, You May Have Legal Recourse.
If you are burned, a family member is injured, or your property is destroyed by the reckless use of fireworks by another person, you may have legal options. You should not be forced to pay for your damages due to someone else refusing to celebrate the 4th of July safely. The experienced, dedicated Denver Child Injury Accident Law Firm of John R. Fuller, P.C. wishes you a very happy and joyful 4th of July holiday, and also remind you to please be conscious of your own safety, as well as the safety of any children with whom you are celebrating. According to CBS News, a woman driving a Pontiac on I-70 in Aurora was killed after driving into the back end of a semi-truck. Police believe that the truck may have been having mechanical difficulties, and for that reason was driving very slowly in the lane of traffic. The woman came up behind the truck, and wedged her car underneath the back end of the trailer. She died at the scene. Investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
Have you been seriously injured in a trucking accident? Contact an experienced Aurora trucking accident lawyer as soon as possible to discuss your options.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration traffic accidents involving large trucks account for over 50,000 injuries and about 3,000 fatalities every year. When a car or small truck is involved in a collision with a large, heavy commercial truck, the incredible difference in momentum can mean a terrible result for anyone inside the passenger vehicle. Of course, in most cases, commercial truckers are experienced, safe drivers but with the inherent difference in size, if a commercial vehicle accident is caused by negligent driving by the commercial driver, the outcome can be tragic.

According to CBS news, a garbage truck crashed into two other vehicles near Highway 287 and Arapahoe road shortly before 8:00 am during the morning commute. The State Patrol closed the road for several hours afterward to clear up and investigate the collision, which resulted in the tragic death of one person. There do not appear to have been any additional injuries. The exact cause of the accident is unclear; hazmat crews were dispatched to the scene in case any hazardous substance leaked from the garbage truck. There were some initial concerns that something may have been leaking, but there is no information as to whether this turned out to be the case.
Have you lost a loved one in a commercial vehicle accident? Contact an experienced Denver trucking accident lawyer immediately.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, several thousand people are killed in accidents with large trucks every year. This number is not huge, compared to the number of accidents, but it is certainly far too big for the families who are left to grieve the loss of loved ones. In addition to the fatalities, there are tens of thousands of injuries, and tens of billions of dollars in property damage annually relating to commercial vehicle crashes. One of the difficulties of these accidents is that the commercial trucking companies have dedicated attorneys whose job is to protect the company’s bottom line. In the case of a traffic accident, this often means denying responsibility and paying out as little as possible in insurance claims.
If you have lost a loved one in a commercial trucking accident, speak with an experienced Denver trucking accident lawyer today to discuss your options. John Fuller is a dedicated Denver trucking accident lawyer who can quickly and thoroughly investigate the crash independently, to determine what happened. If the truck driver was responsible for the crash, or if the accident was caused by poor maintenance of the commercial vehicle, John can ensure that your family recovers compensation for your loss. A collision between two trains in a Denver railyard was, fortunately, not the cause of any injuries, according to KDVR News. Two locomotives crashed into each other in the yard at 47th Ave and Packing House Rd, which caused one of the engines to leak diesel fuel. Because the accident occurred on railroad property, a private contractor was brought in to handle the clean-up. It is extremely fortunate that no one was injured, and no water source is believed to have been endangered.
Have you been seriously injured in an accident that you believe was caused by someone else’s negligence? Speak with an experienced Denver personal injury attorney immediately to protect your rights.
While train crashes are relatively uncommon occurrences, given the size and weight of the vehicles, and the speed at which they are able to travel, the potential for serious injury in a train collision is extreme. When trains collide with cars at railroad crossings, there is frequently a fatality involved. Unfortunately, many train crashes occur because a driver, cyclist, or pedestrian thought that he or she could “beat” the train at a crossing. The simple fact is, when a train hits you, whether you are in a vehicle or not, you lose. The chances of death are very high, and the chances of serious injury even higher.
If you have been injured in a serious accident, speak to an experienced Denver personal injury attorney right away. If your accident was caused by someone’s negligence, then you are entitled to compensation for the costs of the accident, from medical bills, to property damage, to lost wages. An auto accident on I-25 caused southbound lanes to be closed for over an hour, according to the Denver Post. A sedan that had lost control was hit by a semi-truck; a Ford Bronco that may have been involved in some way is being sought by Police. Fortunately, neither driver was injured in the wreck, but two children, a two-year-old and a 19-month-old, who were riding in the car were taken to the hospital for observation. Police are investigating the cause of the crash. While we don’t know what caused this accident, or the final outcome for the children who were taken in for observation, whenever a car is hit by a semi, the people inside are at tremendous risk of injury or death.
Has your child been injured in an auto collision? Contact an experienced Denver auto collision attorney immediately to protect your options.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), not only are car crashes the leading cause of death among all people ages 5-34, but they assert that 13,000 lives were saved in 2009 by seat belts and child safety seats. All of this points to the extreme importance of everyone in a car being properly restrained. If you have children, be sure that you have the correct type of safety seat, that it is installed correctly, and that you restrain your children in it correctly every time they get in the car. Then, be sure to use your own seat belt. Not only will it protect you, but when your children see you using it, it helps start a good habit for them, and they will be more likely to use it themselves when they are old enough not to use a child safety seat.
If your child has been injured in an auto collision, contact a dedicated Denver auto collision law firm immediately. Nothing is more important than the health and safety of your children. John Fuller can help ensure that your child gets the best medical attention possible, and that insurance companies pay the full value of claims, as well as seeking compensation from negligent drivers. The Aspen Daily News reports that a woman who was seriously injured last spring in a skiing accident has filed a claim against the man who she says caused her injuries. Susan Kern, who was in fact a ski instructor at Aspen for over 40 years, had slowed down as she entered the slow skiing area around a gondola plaza when she was struck by another, apparently out-of-control, skier. Ms. Kern, who is in her late 60’s, was wearing a bright red jacket, and should have been highly visible, when she saw the other skier behind her, approaching very quickly with no control. With broken ribs, hip, and leg bones as well as a deflated lung, Ms. Kern spent a significant time period in multiple hospitals as well as a nursing home. A year later, she is still in pain, has difficulty walking, has had to give up her job at Aspen, and in general her quality of life has declined significantly. Her suit says that the other skier failed to meet the quality of care that is due to other skiers under the law, and as such is responsible for her injuries, as well as her subsequent pain and suffering.
Have you been seriously injured in an accident that was caused by another person’s carelessness? Speak with an experienced Denver personal injury attorney immediately to protect your rights.
Although skiing is generally recognized as a potentially dangerous hobby, according to information reported by the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA), there tend to be about 40 serious injuries, as well as about 40 fatalities per year in skiing accidents. Given the tremendous popularity of the sport, these numbers are actually quite low. It is important, however, for everyone who skis to recognize that by being careful and staying within their own ability level, they are not only protecting their own safety, but the safety of others as well. In fact, the Ski Safety Act of 1979 is a Colorado law that creates a standard of care for everyone involved in skiing, from the owner of the ski area, to the lift operators, to the skiers themselves. While most people have probably not read the act, to a large extent, the law requires that skiers ski within their ability level, and under control in order to avoid just this kind of accident.
If you or a family member have been seriously injured in a skiing accident caused by the negligence of another skier, you should speak with a Denver personal injury attorney as soon as possible to discuss your options. It is, of course, important to keep in mind that skiing is potentially dangerous, and some injuries are to be expected from time to time, however just as you have a duty to be careful for the sake of your fellow skiers, so do they have a duty to be careful for your sake. Denver personal injury attorney John Fuller has experience recovering compensation for people who have been injured in all kinds of accidents. Your family should never have to face financial hardship because of someone else’s carelessness. For more information and a FREE CONSULTATION, contact John R. Fuller, PC today at (303)597-4500.
