Family Dog Kills Child – Denver Personal Injury Attorney

August 27th, 2010

A friendly get-together between two families in Wisconsin turned tragic Wednesday when a four-year-old girl was attacked and killed by the family dog. 7News is reporting that the girl and her family had visited the home and the dog many times before. The dog, a male boxer, and the girl were alone when the incident happened so no one knows what prompted the attack. A passing neighbor saw the attack from the road and alerted the family who then called 911. The girl was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The dog was euthanized.

According to Dogbitelaw.com, a recent study showed that 1,000 Americans are treated daily in emergency rooms as a result of dog bites. In 2007 there were 33 fatal dog attacks in the United States. Most dog bite victims who receive medical attention are children with facial injuries.

A dog bite is often a traumatic and scary event—–especially for young children. A child’s small stature makes him especially vulnerable to head, neck and facial injuries including severe facial fractures, permanent scarring, nerve damage and life threatening head injuries. A large dog can easily break a child’s bones and their powerful jaws are capable of causing serious puncture wounds to the face, neck and head. If someone you love was killed by a dog, it is important to know that Colorado’s dog laws are on your side. You do not have to face the future with uncertainty—contact a Colorado dog bite attorney today. Call Denver personal injury attorney John Fuller today for a free consultation. 303-597-4500

Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed in Carbon Monoxide Case – Denver Personal Injury Attorney

August 13th, 2010

CBS4Denver.com has reported that a “wrongful death lawsuit was filed in Denver Wednesday by relatives of a Denver family killed on Thanksgiving Day in 2008 by leaking carbon monoxide.” The family was staying in a vacation home in Aspen at the time, part of a package deal they purchased in a charity auction for their kid’s school. Lawyers for the family allege that several people are responsible for the failures that contributed to their deaths, including the “owner of a plumbing company and two local building inspectors recently indicted in a separate criminal action.” The family hopes the lawsuit will prevent future deaths and will hold those accountable responsible.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that there are 15,000 emergency room visits and 500 deaths due to unintentional CO (carbon monoxide) poisoning in the US every year. The CDC reports that the symptoms most associated with CO poisoning are headaches, nausea, dizziness and mental confusion. Anyone experiencing these symptoms is encouraged to contact emergency crews immediately.

RTD Bus Travels Wrong Way on I-25 – Colorado Bus Injury Attorney

July 16th, 2010

An RTD driver that drove the wrong way in the I-25 HOV lanes on Wednesday has resigned.  According to the Denver Post, the driver, who was alone at the time, went around gates and signs warning him before he began traveling northbound against traffic at about 5:30 a.m. There were no collisions but drivers reported pulling over to the shoulder to avoid the bus. An RTD dispatcher ordered the bus to pull over at East 70th Avenue after being notified by another driver of the situation.

Bus accident statistics are limited; however, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System data for 1993 to 1997 shows that 141 buses were involved in accidents that resulted in the deaths of 21 occupants and injuries to 442 occupants.

If you or someone you love was involved in a bus accident in the state of Colorado, it is important to contact a personal injury attorney immediately to avoid missing any critical deadlines. If the bus is a government-owned entity, you have a small window of time to file a lawsuit. In fact, according to Colorado law, C.R.S. 24-10-109, injured victims only have 180 days to file a notification.
