As reported by KDVR Fox31 News, a pregnant woman and her husband escaped with only minor injuries when their car collided with a school bus in Denver on April 19th, 2011. The school bus accident occurred at the intersection of 8th Avenue and Zuni when the bus driver turned in front of the subcompact car carrying the unidentified couple.
The car lodged under the rear of the bus by force of the collision, yet the six-months-pregnant woman was miraculously uninjured, and the father-to-be suffered only cuts to the head and forearm. The bus driver was cited by police for failing to yield right-of-way. Luckily, the bus was not carrying any students at the time of the Denver accident.
According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
, there have been at least 72 annual fatalities and an unknown number of injuries caused by these large vehicles with poor visibility. Worse, although media reports properly focus on children injured or killed by bus crashes, it appears that many of the fatalities and injuries are suffered by motorists during accidents with buses, including a worrisome number here in Colorado.
