The cost of fighting the Black Forest fire near Colorado Springs has risen to about $8.5 million dollars, according to the Denver Post. The fire has burned over 14,000 acres and destroyed more than 500 homes, also claiming the lives of two people. As the fire reaches status as being fully contained, firefighters are combing a small area that is believed to contain the origin point of the fire. Investigators are also examining the home where two residents were killed, apparently while packing up to leave the area. Nearly 1,000 homes in an area covering an additional 10,000 acres are still under mandatory evacuation, although at one point almost 40,000 people had been made to leave their homes.

As summer fire season sets in, it is a good time to think about the insurance that you carry on your home. Hopefully, all of those people who lost their homes are fully covered by insurance, and will be covered for their financial loss. Unfortunately, experience teaches that insurance companies don’t always keep the promises that they make. When you purchase an insurance policy, you believe that if your home is destroyed by fire, the insurance company will pay to restore or replace your home. But Denver insurance dispute attorneys know that sometimes, when faced with a large claim, insurance companies will do just about anything to avoid paying out on your claim. Sometimes, insurance companies are more concerned with protecting their profits than with keeping the promises that they made when they sold the policy in the first place.

john-fuller-personal-injury-attorneySpeak with experienced Denver insurance dispute attorney John R. Fuller today to discuss your options if your insurance company is trying to avoid paying your valid claim. Insurance companies have a number of tricks. In some cases, they may deny a claim altogether, hoping that the policy holder either won’t know or won’t protect his or her rights. In other cases, they may offer a settlement that comes nowhere near paying for all of the damage. When you pay your insurance premiums, you deserve the full, fair value of your insurance claims. John Fuller is an experienced Denver insurance dispute attorney who will work hard to see that you get exactly what you deserve. The force of the explosion blew windows out of the condo, and set off the sprinkler system. The sprinklers caused water damage to the other condos in the building. All four teens were taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center. One of the four was later flown to a hospital on the front range for more treatment. The condition of the four teenagers is not known.

9 News reports that football helmet manufacturer Ridell has been ordered to pay over $3 million to the family of a high school student in Las Animas County who suffered brain injuries while wearing a Ridell helmet. The suit claims that Ridell failed to adequately warn of the dangers of concussion. Ridell faces a similar suit in California, as well as complaint by numerous former NFL players. The jury here in Colorado determined that damages in the case totaled $11.5 million, and that Ridell was 27% responsible for the young man’s injuries. That makes the award in the range of $3.1 million (27% of $11.5 million). The family’s attorney plans to ask the judge to find Ridell responsible for the entire $11.5 million judgment.

USA Today has issued a report about weather deaths in the United states. While tornadoes, hurricanes, and floods get the lion’s share of media attention, the majority of weather-related fatalities across the country occur when inclement weather causes car accidents. The Federal Highway Administration (FHA) says that over 7,000 people are killed in weather-related traffic crashes each year. They define a weather-related traffic crash as one that occurs in adverse weather: snow, heavy rain, ice, sleet, etc. Generally speaking, traffic accidents rarely make the news, outside of large, multi-vehicle pileups. Sheldon Drobot of the National Center for Atmospheric Research says that he would like to see a day when the increasingly advanced computer systems that cars have built in could share information, in order to help prevent some of these collisions. Have you or a loved one been seriously injured because of another driver’s carelessness? Speak with an experienced Denver auto accident attorney today to discuss your options. 7,000 fatalities per year due to weather-related traffic accidents is a tragically large number. In fact, it is roughly 20% of the more than 30,000 total traffic fatalities each year. This statistic really highlights the need for every driver to use caution when the weather turns bad. This means slowing down and allowing more following distance in bad conditions. It means allowing more time to get where you’re going. It means not allowing yourself to be in a rush, even if you’re running late. It may mean skipping trips in the car that aren’t necessary. All of these inconveniences are far less of a problem than a serious car accident in which someone is injured, or worse. john-fuller-personal-injury-attorneySpeak to dedicated, experienced Denver auto accident attorney John Fuller today if you or a loved one have been seriously injured in a Colorado car wreck. Police-lightsThe Aspen Post reports that a woman has filed a civil claim against the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority as well as a bus driver following the death of her adult daughter in a public transportation accident. The daughter, who was walking in the bus lane in the early hours of the morning on New Years Day, was struck from behind by a bus, causing the windshield of the bus to shatter. The woman was dragged by the bus, and died as a result of the accident. The mother is seeking close to $500,000 in the claim, hoping to recover compensation for funeral expenses, loss of income, and loss of companionship. Have you or a loved one been injured in a public transportation accident? Contact an experienced Colorado public transportation accident attorney immediately; time is often of the essence. When filing a claim against a government agency such as a public transportation district, the statute of limitations is generally significantly shorter than it would be when filing a civil claim against a private person or company. For this reason, acting as quickly as possible to protect your rights is vital. While it is unusual for a government agency to be found responsible for injuring a person, when this does happen, you don’t want to lose your rights. No one should have to suffer financial hardship on top of physical injury because of the negligent actions of a government agency or a government employee. john-fuller-personal-injury-attorneyContact the dedicated Denver public transportation accident attorneys at Fuller Law today if you or a loved one have been seriously injured in a bus accident. JasonCam20111209 164Car accidents are a daily part of life in Colorado, with millions of car accidents occurring annually across the country. Understandably, many people get nervous when they are involved in a car accident. Knowing what to do after a car accident can be difficult in the best of times, but when someone is injured, the police are involved, and people are getting emotional, it can be very difficult to know how to react, and doing the wrong thing by mistake can be very easy. When the an accident results in serious injuries, it is a good idea to speak with an experienced Denver car accident lawyer. Here are some frequently asked questions about Colorado car accident.

Q: If I am in a car accident, and the police come, should I talk to them?

A: Yes, you should speak to the police. There is no need to tell the police more than simply the facts of the accident. You should not say anything that indicates blame; don’t accept blame for the accident, and don’t accuse anyone else of fault in the accident. The accident reports that police officers take are not always accurate, but it is best not to give the police a reason to think badly of you, either by claiming responsibility or by blaming someone else. A dedicated Denver car accident lawyer can often conduct an independent investigation, and demonstrate the facts of the case, even if the police officer got them wrong.

Q: Do I have to tell my insurance company about my car accident?

A: Yes, you do need to notify your insurance company. When it comes to insurance, in many cases the less you say the better, particularly when it comes to the other driver’s insurance company. This is another example of why it is a good idea to speak with a Denver car accident lawyer who can help ensure that nothing that is said to the insurance company is twisted in order to be used against you.

Q: What should I do if the car insurance company won’t pay my claim?

A: Unfortunately, it is standard practice at some insurance companies to simply deny large claims in order to protect their own bottom line. The claim you filed after your car accident has been denied, or if they are offering you a settlement that you don’t believe will cover the cost of the accident, speak with a dedicated Denver car accident attorney to discuss your options.
