A little boy who was nearly hit by a car was saved when his father pushed him out of the way, according to 9 News. Francisco Casillas, Sr. pushed his son, Francisco Jr. out of the way when a car drove over the curb and into the family’s front yard near 17th and Peoria in Aurora. The boy was sideswiped by the car, but suffered only minor injuries. If it weren’t for his father, the child might have been struck directly, and the outcome could have been much much worse. Police do not believe that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and she was issued a citation for careless driving. Has your child been injured in a car accident? Contact an experienced Aurora car accident lawyer to discuss your options. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that in 2008, there were 4,378 pedestrians killed in traffic accidents. They calculate that a pedestrian is 1.5 times more likely to be killed in a car crash than the occupant of a vehicle. They also found that one out of every five children killed in a traffic accident is a pedestrian. If your child has been seriously injured in a car accident, contact a dedicated Aurora car accident lawyer immediately. Any parent will agree that an injury to their child is more frightening even than an injury to themselves. The life of a toddler was changed forever by a car accident, according to 9 News. When a woman driving with her 3-year-old son in the back seat drove into the back of an RTD bus while she was distracted from the road, the child suffered a spinal cord injury that has resulted in his paralysis from the neck down. Investigators have indicated that the child safety seat was correctly installed, which is actually relatively uncommon (studies show that more than half of Colorado child safety seats are incorrectly installed or incorrectly used). Additionally, the mother says that she buckled her son into the seat, but that he has known how to unbuckle the chest restraint for over a year. In fact, this is both common among three-year-olds, and developmentally appropriate. The woman does not remember what distracted her attention, but thinks it may be that in fact she was looking at her son in the mirror, trying to get him to sit back in his seat. Unfortunately, this child suffered injuries that will probably require lifelong medical attention. Has your child suffered a serious spinal cord injury in a car crash? Contact an experienced Denver spinal injury lawyer immediately. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that between 12,000 and 20,000 people suffer spinal cord injuries every year. Many of these people will recover completely, but many will be permanently injured, or will not survive the injury. The vast majority of spinal cord injuries are the result of motor vehicle accidents, falls, and acts of violence. In many cases, the ultimate outcome of a spinal cord injury, whether the victim survives, and is able to lead a “normal” life, comes down how quickly they are able to receive emergency medical services. If your child has suffered a spinal injury in an auto collision, contact an experienced, compassionate Denver spinal injury lawyer as soon as possible. The health and safety of your child will obviously be your primary concern. Unfortunately, getting the best possible health care sometimes becomes difficult when left in the hands of insurance companies, who may not want to pay for expensive, though medically appropriate, treatment options. Denver spinal injury lawyer John Fuller has helped numerous people in the Denver Metro area who have suffered from spinal cord injury in accidents. An auto accident on I-25 caused southbound lanes to be closed for over an hour, according to the Denver Post. A sedan that had lost control was hit by a semi-truck; a Ford Bronco that may have been involved in some way is being sought by Police. Fortunately, neither driver was injured in the wreck, but two children, a two-year-old and a 19-month-old, who were riding in the car were taken to the hospital for observation. Police are investigating the cause of the crash. While we don’t know what caused this accident, or the final outcome for the children who were taken in for observation, whenever a car is hit by a semi, the people inside are at tremendous risk of injury or death. Has your child been injured in an auto collision? Contact an experienced Denver auto collision attorney immediately to protect your options. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), not only are car crashes the leading cause of death among all people ages 5-34, but they assert that 13,000 lives were saved in 2009 by seat belts and child safety seats. All of this points to the extreme importance of everyone in a car being properly restrained. If you have children, be sure that you have the correct type of safety seat, that it is installed correctly, and that you restrain your children in it correctly every time they get in the car. Then, be sure to use your own seat belt. Not only will it protect you, but when your children see you using it, it helps start a good habit for them, and they will be more likely to use it themselves when they are old enough not to use a child safety seat. If your child has been injured in an auto collision, contact a dedicated Denver auto collision law firm immediately. Nothing is more important than the health and safety of your children. John Fuller can help ensure that your child gets the best medical attention possible, and that insurance companies pay the full value of claims, as well as seeking compensation from negligent drivers. Aurora firefighter Jason Murphy was killed early Friday morning after being struck on his bicycle by a pickup truck. According to sources at 9news.com, the driver of the 2002 Dodge Ram pickup, 49-year-old William Nale, told authorities that he was unable to see Murphy in the marked crosswalk due to the morning sun. The accident happened in Aurora near Summit Elementary School. Aurora Fire says Murphy was on his way to work at 7:30am when he was struck. Murphy passed away shortly after being taken to a local hospital for serious injuries. Police say Nale was cited for careless driving resulting in death and failing to provide proof of insurance. Have you or a loved one been seriously injured in an auto crash and have questions concerning your personal rights? Contact a dedicated Colorado bicycle accident lawyer to evaluate your case. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, several hundred cyclists are killed in traffic accidents every year, and more than one in five deaths is the result of a collision with a vehicle at an intersection. In many cases, the accident occurred because the driver did not see the cyclist. Because cyclists have very little protection, it is important for both the driver, and the cyclist to proceed with caution and pay close attention when entering crossing zones or intersections. Colorado law requires all vehicles to stop for pedestrians at a crosswalk.

The left over ice on residential roads can be extremely dangerous, especially with more snow and cold weather in the forecast. According to 9 News, a vehicle lost control on some ice in a Lakewood neighborhood and hit three young pedestrians. Witnesses claim that the entire street is covered with sheets of ice and when the car attempted to stop, it slid and jumped the curb. The three pedestrians were rushed to a nearby hospital with severe injuries. The police are still investigating the accident but they believe the car did not realize the street was a dead end and had to stop suddenly.  Clearwater pedestrian accident lawyer, Jim Dodson said, “Pedestrian traffic accidents and fatalities have become a dangerous epidemic. When a pedestrian is hurt in an accident, the injuries are often very serious and many times, fatal”. There are no signs in the area indicating a dead end. All thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families for a speedy recovery. Have you or a loved one been seriously injured in an auto crash and have questions concerning your personal rights? Contact a dedicated Colorado pedestrian accident lawyer to evaluate your case. With no where to pile all the recent snow, many just threw it in the streets that were not being plowed. Many residential roads went unplowed after numerous snow storms that eventually compiled into sheets of patchy ice, making it extremely difficult to drive on. With more snow inevitably on its way this winter, make sure to drive with caution, even in low speed areas. Any accident involving a child is tragic, making sure to drive carefully when any amount of snow or ice is on the ground is advisable. According to KDVR.com, a crash on Highway 34 near Loveland involving a horse trailer resulted in rescue crews having to use the Jaws of Life to free one of the two horses that were being transported in the trailer. The accident occurred around 5 pm when the trailer became unhitched from the Recreational Vehicle that was pulling it. Apparently no other vehicle was involved in the accident beside the horse trailer, and there was no serious injury to either horse, although the one, which is known for appearing in jousting competitions had to be sedated to be removed from the trailer. Certainly, with a trailer coming unhitched from its vehicle, it is lucky that no one was hurt, and that there wasn’t more property damage. The article does not make clear why the trailer came unhitched. While we obviously don’t know, one possibility is a defective hitch on either the RV or the trailer. Have you or a loved one been injured in an accident caused by defective equipment on a vehicle? Contact a Denver Defective Product Attorney today to discuss your options. Every year, there are well over 5 million police-reported motor vehicle crashes in the United States, according to data provided by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The vast majority of them involve property damage only, with no injuries. Of course, the injuries that they report would be injuries to people, not animals. Had the horses been seriously injured or killed, this still would not have been considered an injury accident, but veterinarian bills or replacement cost of horses would have represented a significant amount of property damage. If you have been involved in a car accident that was caused by defective equipment on your car or someone else’s, contact a Denver defective product attorney as soon as possible to protect your legal rights. John Fuller is an experienced Denver trial attorney who can explain your rights, and help protect your interests. Proving that damage was caused by defective equipment can be complicated, and getting insurance companies to pay related claims can be difficult. John Fuller’s skill and legal expertise can help. According to KDVR.com, Shawn Howell witnessed an accident this morning in which a trash collection truck rolled over onto a Jeep, causing significant damage to both the truck and the Jeep. Mr. Howell said that both vehicles were driving the same direction on Colorado when they came to another accident. In trying to avoid the other accident, the garbage truck rolled onto the Jeep. Shortly after the accident, an employee of Law Father who was on his way to work passed the accident site. He stopped to help, and took some pictures as workers returned the trash truck to its wheels. Have you or a loved one been injured in a commercial vehicle accident? Contact an experienced trucking accident attorney to discuss your options. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration reports on large truck and bus collisions. Large trucks or buses are involved in 300,000 or more traffic accidents annually nationwide. The majority of these, including this morning’s wreck on Colorado Blvd, involve property damage only. Unfortunately, however, there are over 50,000 injury accidents involving large trucks and buses annually, with around 3,00 or more fatal crashes. It is very lucky that this particular crash was not one of them. Have you or a member of your family been involved in a trucking accident? Contact a dedicated Denver trucking accident attorney today. Insurance companies are concerned with profits, and often seek to settle claims for less than they actually cost to fix, so that even if your accident involved property damage only, an attorney can help you get the maximum settlement from the insurance company.
