A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition after being struck by a truck in a Colorado Springs car wash parking lot. 7News is reporting that the boy was with his father at the car wash on South Academy Blvd when he was struck by a Hummer on Tuesday. Police said the boy was taken to the hospital with a serious head injury. Jim Dodson, a Lakewood Ranch car accident attorney, points out that an extreme mount of anxiety can be caused by serious injuries to children. The loss of 4,378 lives in pedestrian/motor vehicle crashes in 2008 is an awful statistic. That amounts to twelve deaths everyday of the year. According to WalkingInfo.org, there were 69,000 reported pedestrian injuries in 2008, nearly one every 8 minutes. In the state of Colorado alone, 44 pedestrians lost their lives. Injuries from motor vehicle accidents in Colorado and the United States number in the millions every year. Two women were killed Saturday afternoon at the Greeley Mall. According to 9News, the woman were killed when a pick-up truck crashed through a store front and struck both women. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident. Witnesses at the scene said it appeared that the driver of the pick-up truck was unconscious when the accident happened. Greeley Police Cpt. Juan Cruz says the driver is cooperating with police, and they do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor. “At this point, it could be anything from medical to mechanical to who knows what else,” Cruz said. According to a 2003 report from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, almost 175,000 pedestrians died in all motor vehicle crashes with over 162,000 pedestrians killed in single vehicle crashes between 1975 and 2001. Most pedestrian fatalities occur at non-intersections (over 75 percent) and roadways without crosswalks (over 40 percent). When a loved one has suddenly and tragically died in a fatal accident, those left behind can sometimes overlook the need to seek justice on the victim’s behalf. Being so fully focused on their grief and pain, calling an attorney is the last thing on their minds. But it is at times like these that a law firm is most needed to protect the families’ rights. If a loved one has been killed in a accident in Denver or anywhere else in Colorado, contact a Denver wrongful death attorney to get the compensation you deserve for your injuries.
